Sharjah Tourism Travel Quiz

Adventure off road in a specialized, over undulating dunes and marvel at the ever-changing colours and sinuous shapes of the desert sands

Fossil Rock and the gigantic, ruby-red dunes known as ‘Big Red’ are two of the most popular locations for dune-bashing, stargazing and camping.

If you have some experience of desert driving, you can hire a four-wheel drive vehicle from most car rental companies, but always go with at least one other vehicle.

Alternatively, there are numerous tour operators that offer desert safaris and overnight camping. The tours usually include dune bashing and activities such as falconry, camel riding, henna painting and belly dancing, followed by an Arabic feast under the stars.

How to get there

Fossil Rock is located near Mleiha, around 65km southeast of Sharjah City. Meanwhile, Big Red is found near Al Badayer, around the same distance from the city.
