AL MIDFA: AUTHORITY KEEN TO ENSURE HIGHEST-LEVEL SERVICES AND MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE FOR THE 15TH EDITION OF SHARJAH GRAND PRIX

Date Published: Tuesday, December 16, 2014 Sharjah is all set for the UIM F1H20 World Powerboat Championship 2014 thriller this week. All arrangements are in place for the most significant sporting event in the Emirate to be held in Khalid Lagoon on December 18 and 19, being held alongside the Sharjah Water Festival, 2014, said Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority. The Sharjah Water Festival opens on December 17 at Al Majaz Waterfront and will draw to a close on December 20th with a wide range of international entertainment and fun events. The Emirate has been buzzing with activity as international powerboat championship teams and world media arrived in Sharjah for the much awaited UIM F1H20 World Powerboat Championship that attracts thousands of motorsports enthusiasts and sports lovers every year. HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Director General, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority said that that the Authority is sparing no efforts to ensure highest-level of services and a memorable experience for the 15th edition of UIM Formula One Powerboat Championship as it has been receiving extensive media coverage and attention of sports enthusiasts from around the world. This only enhances the emirate’s stature as a perfect destination for organising and hosting world-class events such as these, he added. Al Midfa said that Sharjah’s successful hosting of the UIM World Powerboat Championship for the 15th year in a row underscored the Emirate’s capabilities and pre-eminence in organising such world-class events. It also helped contribute to Sharjah’s image as a world-class tourism destination. Al Midfa expressed his satisfaction at the continuing cooperation and coordination between the Authority and various Sharjah government departments and agencies that have helped in successful and smooth organisation of the Championship over the years. The logistical and technical support provided to teams, international media and experts is essential to successful hosting of an event of this magnitude, he said. A total of 18 boats of the best Formula 1 racers from around the globe will once again compete in the prestigious international championship forming the grand finale of an action-packed season which will determine and crown the world champion. HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Director General, SCTDA will formally announce the UIM F1 H20 World Championship at a press conference on Wednesday, December 17 at Hilton Sharjah in the presence of HE Nicolo di San Germano, promoter of the UIM H20 World Championship, and Formula One Powerboat champions and teams who have won the highest total points in the races earlier this year. Festival sponsors, event partners and local and international media will also be present on the occasion. As in the past, a full equipped media centre has been set up on the terrace of Hilton Sharjah, offering a perfect view of all the fun and action down in the shimmering waters of Khalid Lagoon during the championship. Besides, the Authority has invited several regional and international media organisations to cover the Powerboat Championship as well as the Sharjah Water Festival which promises several new attractions and thrills.
