Al Midfa: GCC markets are the largest markets to Sharjah 450 000 Gulf guests in Sharjah hotels in 2016

Date Published: Monday, May 15, 2017 Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority announced its participation in a GCC Roadshow organised by the UAE Ministry of Economy. The roadshow will include a number of Gulf capitals aiming at marketing the UAE in the GCC market and promoting the latest developments in the tourism industry in the country between 14 and 18 May. Sharjah is participating in the workshops held in the cities of Muscat, Doha, Bahrain, Kuwait and Riyadh, which are expected to attract 100 to 150 of the leading travel and tourism companies in the cities. Commenting on the participation of Sharjah, HE Khalid Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman of the SCTDA, stressed the importance of the Gulf markets, which are the largest markets exporting tourists to Sharjah, where the hotels in the emirate attracted more than 450,000 guests from the Gulf region in 2016. He pointed out that Sharjah is one of the preferred destinations for the Gulf tourists because it offers a distinctive family product. It also has common traditions and customs with the Gulf countries while preserving its cultural and heritage identity and offering the Gulf tourists a rich heritage cultural product including a number of heritage features such as the Heart of Sharjah and a number of museums and heritage houses, as well as entertainment centers suitable for the whole family. The emirate also offers excellent shopping opportunities with a range of tax free high end and high street brands available at luxury malls and heritage markets. There is an array of world cuisine to tempt every palate and budget offered at a variety of locations around the emirate. Sharjah’s strategic position as one of the most important ports on the Arabian Gulf and a well-known commercial hub in the region with an international airport makes it a convenient holiday destination. Air Arabia operate direct flights from a number of Gulf destinations. The Chairman said that the Authority is keen to participate in roadshows under the umbrella of the Ministry of Economy, which promotes the tourism sector in the emirate as well as the events and festivals organised around the year.
