Al Midfa: Saudi Arabia ranks third among Sharjah’s top 10 tourism markets
Date Published: Monday, April 11, 2016 Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) has announced its participation in the Riyadh Travel Fair for the fifth consecutive year as it aims to consolidate its leading position as a family tourist destination, especially in the Saudi market. The prominent travel fair in the Saudi capital will be the biggest so far and will be held from April 12 to 15 with the participation of over 240 exhibitors from regional and global markets. SCTDA’s participation in the fair comes as part of its strategic overseas promotional programme focusing on key markets. Saudi Arabia is one of the major source markets for Sharjah’s tourism sector, which has been witnessing sustained growth in the number of Saudi tourists visiting the emirate each year. During the exhibition, the Authority also aims to strengthen cooperation with decision makers in the Saudi tourism sector and promote Sharjah’s latest tourism products among the visitors. His Excellency Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of SCTDA, described Saudi market as a major contributor to the growth of Sharjah’s tourism sector. “Riyadh Travel Fair is one of the most important events supporting Sharjah’s efforts to attract more visitors from the Saudi market. The event also strengthens SCTDA’s plans to promote Sharjah’s tourism products effectively in the Gulf markets,” HE Al Midfa said. HE Al Midfa pointed out that Saudi Arabia ranks third among Sharjah’s top 10 tourism markets. SCTDA is therefore keen to ensure a strong presence in specialised tourism events in the country that bring together leading travel and tourism entities and tourism authorities in the region, he said. The Sharjah delegation to Riyadh Travel Fair includes representatives from Copthorne, Ramada, Al Shaab Village and SATA. During the fair, the delegation will hold a number of meetings with representatives of key entities and specialists in the tourism related sectors to explore possibilities of joint cooperation as well as exchange of experiences. The Riyadh Travel Fair 2016 has expanded with an increase in exhibition space by 11 per cent compared to last year. The event will gather decision makers in the travel and tourism sector as well as exhibitors from 55 countries. The exhibition will feature 50 national pavilions, and is expected to attract more than 20,000 visitors this year. The event will also witness a series of key meetings focused on expanding business opportunities, in addition to workshops and specialised seminars.
