H.E. Al Noman: Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021 shaping bright future for emirate’s tourism sector

Date Published: Tuesday, May 5, 2015 Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) organised the seventh edition of Sharjah Tourism Excellence Award for the year 2014 to honour the sector partners in the emirate. The event was organised last Sunday in the presence of Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Corporation, Sheikh Salem bin Abdul Rahman bin Salem Al Qasimi, ‏Director of Sharjah Ruler’s Office, H.E. Dr. Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization, H.E. Mohammed Ali Al Noman, Chairman of SCTDA, and H.E. Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Director General of SCTDA, and a number of dignitaries and media representatives. Sheikh Faisal bin Khalid Al Qasimi was named as the Tourism Personality of the Year 2014 for his active role in supporting tourism sector in Sharjah. Sheikh Faisal is one of the most prominent figures that have contributed to the growth of tourism in the UAE, and particularly in Emirate of Sharjah. Sheikh Faisal has held several government positions in the emirate and played a prominent role in the travel and tourism industry, and currently heads the Sharjah Travel Agents Association, and holds a number of other positions. In a speech during the ceremony, H.E. Mohammed Ali Al Noman expressed SCTDA’s appreciation and thanked the strategic partners for their achievements and creative ideas that have contributed to the development of the tourism sector in the emirate. Such efforts have helped offer better services and supported the emirate's strategic plans to enable it to occupy a prominent position on the world tourism map, H.E. Al Noman said. H.E. Al Noman said the Emirate of Sharjah is shaping its bright future with the launch of Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021, which aims to attract up to 10 million tourists by the year 2021. SCTDA will work to achieve this vision by increasing cooperation with government departments and private sector companies working in the aviation, tourism and hospitality sectors, he said. He added that Sharjah Tourism Excellence Award this year coincides with the Sharjah’s recognition as Arab Tourism Capital for 2015, marking a new achievement in its list of honours. This achievement embodies the vision His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the support of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, H.E. Al Noman said. H.E Al Noman said SCTDA is committed to its strategic responsibilities, and through Sharjah Tourism Excellence Award, the Authority highlights the best services and outstanding achievements in the tourism sector. The effort is to improve the cooperation between the public and private sectors to promote the tourism industry in Sharjah to establish it as a unique destination in the world, H.E. Al Noman said. H.E. Dr. Taleb Rifai commended SCTDA for its achievements and expressed appreciation for the development of Sharjah at various levels, especially in terms of education, culture and heritage. The ceremony honoured outstanding contributions in the local, regional and global tourism sector. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi honored H.E. Taleb Rifai and H.E.Khalid Murad Ali Amin, Secretary General of the Arab Tourism Organization. H.E. Mohammed Ali Al Noman presented a souvenir from SCTDA to Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi. Sharjah Tourism Excellence Award is organised by SCTDA to honour individuals and institutions working in the tourism sector in the Emirate of Sharjah, who are committed to the values ​​and quality standards matching the potential of the tourism sector in Sharjah. The award also recognises media representatives who contribute towards highlighting the emirate as an outstanding tourist destination.
