India remains a key source market for Sharjah and the Authority is looking to expand its share of the Indian market.
Date Published: Thursday, March 2, 2017 The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) participated in the OTM Mumbai 2017 travel trade show which took place on February 21-23, 2017. The exhibition, one of the largest travel and tourism shows in India, attracted a large number of entities from the tourism and travel industry from the region and the world. His Excellency Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of SCTDA, said: “India remains a key source market for Sharjah, sending more and more visitors to the emirate every year. The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority is taking part in OTM Mumbai under the umbrella of Ministry of Economy to reaffirm our commitment to strengthen cooperation between the emirates when it comes to tourism, as well as to highlight Sharjah’s tourism offerings and increase communication with key decision makers. This, in turn, bolsters our strategic ties with the Indian market, and allows us to benefit from the significant momentum it has to offer.” Sharjah product presents good opportunities and is well received in this market. Sharjah offers an ideal platform for business, shopping, and beach-resort tourism. New campaigns launching this year will profile the environmental assets of the emirate, which we expect to be an even wider market. OTM Mumbai is one of the largest and most effective travel platforms in India. In its 2016 edition, the show drew 1,000 participants from 50 countries. The Indian market comprises 20 million outbound travellers who spend upwards of $10 billion a year – and the market is growing at a rate of 10% every year.
