SCTDA to utilise MITT platform to explore cooperation opportunities with Russian travel and tourism companies
Date Published: Wednesday, March 23, 2016 Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) has announced its participation in the Moscow International Travel & Tourism Exhibition (MITT) for the 17th consecutive year. SCTDA’s participation in the leading exhibition in the Russian capital from March 23 to 26 follows its recent success at ITB Berlin, one of the top travel and tourism exhibitions in Europe. The Sharjah delegation to MITT, led by SCTDA, includes major travel and hospitality entities from the emirate, including Sheraton, Hotel Holiday International, Copthorne, Radisson Blu, Al Khalidiah, SATA, Sharjah International Airport, Air Arabia, and Cozmo Travel. On the occasion, His Excellency Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of SCTDA, said: “As a major international event that bring together leaders of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries from around the world, MITT offers significant opportunities for Sharjah to attract more tourists from the Russian market.” HE Al Midfa said: “Sharjah is an ideal tourist destination for families with its mild weather, sandy beaches and beautiful deserts. The emirate organises a number of international recreational and sports activities for tourists, and offers them an outstanding tourism experience with its well-developed infrastructure, excellent hotel facilities, and world-class museums and cultural centres.” Describing the Russian market as a major contributor to the tourism sector, HE Al Midfa said the Sharjah delegation will utilise the MITT platform to discuss mutual cooperation with Russian travel and tourism companies to increase the tourist flow to Sharjah. SCTDA will also promote Sharjah as an attractive tourist destination and highlight the latest tourism projects and hotel facilities in the emirate, HE Al Midfa said. Organised as an annual event, MITT is one of the top five travel exhibitions in the world and is highly valued by the international tourism community. MITT, which was founded in 1994, will feature this year over 1,800 companies from more than 192 destinations. The event will be attended by national and regional tourist boards, tour operators, hotel facilities, airlines as well as tour organisations.
