Sharjah to showcase its Tourism Vision 2021 at ATM

Date Published: Monday, May 4, 2015 Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority will lead Sharjah’s participation at the Arabian Travel Market 2015 from May 4 to 7 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, during which it will highlight the new tourism projects in the emirate. This is the eighteenth year in a row that SCTDA is taking part in the exhibition, which attracts participants from the travel and tourism industry in Middle East region and around the world. The launch of Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021 by SCTDA adds more value to its participation in the Arabian Travel Market this year, during which it will inform the Sharjah tourism sector stakeholders about the goals of the Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021 and its pillars. SCTDA will also encourage stakeholders to cooperate and form partnerships to support the concerted efforts to improve tourist offers and services offered by the emirate. It will offer the Vision as a catalyst for excellence in order to achieve the main objective of the Vision to welcome up to 10 million tourists in Sharjah by 2021. The eighteenth year of participation at ATM also coincides with Sharjah’s recognition by the Arab Tourism Organisation as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2015. The winning of this title has enhanced Sharjah’s reputation as a favourite family tourist destination that attracts millions of visitors from around the world. His Excellency Mohammed Ali Al Noman, Chairman of SCTDA, said the Arabian Travel Market has over the years offered Sharjah’s tourism sector a major platform to attract tourists from all over the world, and communicate with partners in various sectors in target markets. It is also one of the leading tourism events for tourism business growth in the Middle East, H.E. Al Noman said. Stating the importance of Sharjah’s participation in the ATM as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2015, H.E. Al Noman said SCTDA will highlight new tourism projects and shed light on annual events that showcase Sharjah’s rich diversity to attract more visitors from all countries. Sharjah’s participation in the ATM features a huge pavilion under the umbrella of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority with the participation of Sharjah International Airport Authority, Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority, Sharjah Museums Department, Sharjah Hotels National Company, Hilton Hotel Sharjah, Radisson Blu Hotel & Resort Sharjah, MH Group of Hotels Sharjah, 72 Hues Hotel Sharjah, Centro Hotel Sharjah, Golden Tulip Hotel Sharjah, Ariana Hotel Sharjah, Royal Grand Hotel Sharjah, Sharjah Premiere Hotel, Pearl Hotel in Sharjah, Al Majaz Hotel Apartments Sharjah, Al Khalidiya Tourism and Travel Company, ArabLink Company for Tourism and Travel and Al Shaeb Village Entertainment Complex. With its elaborately designed pavilion that extends 532 square metres, Sharjah has lined up a number of activities for visitors, which include virtual screens that display Sharjah’s landmarks. It will also launch smart phone applications along with a number of activities and events that highlight the emirate’s prominent family tourism products. According to the SCTDA data, hotels in Sharjah received more than two million guests in 2014. With 106 hotel facilities in the emirate, including 50 hotels and 56 apartments, the total number of hotel rooms has reached 10,000. As tourism drives huge demand in Sharjah’s hospitality sector, a number of hotel projects are being completed in the emirate. Among these, Sheraton Sharjah Beach Resort & Spa will open this year, while several others, including ‘The Chedi Hotel’ in Khor Fakkan, will start receiving visitors in the coming years. Sharjah tourism portfolio includes a wide range of products that make it one of the favourite family tourist destinations in the world. Sharjah’s strategic geographical location provides direct access to visitors through instant air connectivity from any part of the globe. The emirate also offers visitors a wide range of accommodation in some of the best hotels. Apart from the cultural hotspots and outstanding museums, Sharjah offers family friendly beaches on both the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Sharjah’s east coast is particularly popular for water sports, snorkeling and diving, and families have the option to camp on the beach or stay in any of the motels and hotels that line the coast. The Arabian Travel Market hosts this year more than 2,700 exhibitors comprising leading players in the travel and tourism industry. The event, which includes a series of conferences and specialised workshops, is expected to attract more than 23,000 visitors.
