Date Published: Tuesday, November 4, 2014 Al NOMAN: AUTHORITY KEEN TO UPGRADE TOURISM-HOSPTIALITY SECTOR, SERVICES IN THE EMIRATE Sharjah Tourism Welcomes Sharjah International Book Fair Delegates HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, Chairman, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority has said that the Authority has once again joined hands with hotel industry in the emirate to provide world-class services and facilities to guests and delegates participating in the Sharjah International Book Fair, being held from 5 to 10 November, 2014. The Authority conducted extensive inspections of hotel facilities and held intensive meetings with their management and representatives to ensure compliance across the emirate. This came in Al Noman’s remarks on the eve of the Sharjah International Book Fair that opens Wednesday (Nov 5) at the Expo Centre Sharjah for the 33rd year. The fourth-largest in the world and oldest in the Middle East, the Sharjah International Book Fair every year attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world. More than 1200 Arab publishing houses and hundreds of foreign publishers, government agencies and local, Arab and international authors take part in the much awaited Sharjah exhibition. Speaking on the occasion, Al Noman reaffirmed the emirate’s keenness to improve and upgrade the tourism and hospitality sector infrastructure and services provided to its visitors. He said that a number of new hotels have recently opened up in the emirate and work is going apace on a number of luxury hotel projects and facilities by international hospitality chains in line with the growing number of international tourists and the demand for services. Al Noman underscored the need to take advantage of major international events such the Sharjah International Book Fair to highlight the outstanding cultural heritage and tourism product that Sharjah has to offer to international visitors. For his part, Mr Khamis Kazzaz, General Manager, Radisson Blu Sharjah said that the resort is all set to welcome the guests for the 33rd Sharjah International Book Fair. All arrangements and preparations have been made to provide the best services to the visiting delegates, publishers and authors and meet all their requirements. He said that Radisson Blue Sharjah, which reported 95% occupancy rate last year, expects to achieve even better results this year. Mr Kazzaz noted that over the past few years, Sharjah has registered remarkable success with its own distinct features, particularly in hosting major events every year such as the Sharjah International Book Fair that have made Sharjah the destination of choice for visitors from around the world. He lauded the role of the Sharjah Tourism, which has made great efforts in improving the tourism sector in the emirate and in organising and supporting the events such as the Sharjah International Book Fair, Sharjah Light Festival, Sharjah Water Festival, the UIM H20 Powerboat Championship, Sharjah International Children’s Film Festival and various other festivals and activities. In addition to its celebrated culture, endless leisure and shopping opportunities, Sharjah boasts some of the best beaches, tourist attractions and getaways making it a global tourist and leading cultural destination, he said. Mr Haytham Khairy, General Manager, Aryana Hotel praised the impressive growth of the Sharjah International Book Fair over the years in terms of exhibitor and visitor participation, space and services provided and positive impact on the tourism and hospitality sector. He expressed his confidence that the Sharjah Book Fair will once again reflect positively on the hotel occupancy rates in the emirate in general and on Aryana Hotel in particular, which happens to be very close to the Sharjah Expo Centre. Mr Khairy said the hotel is keen to provide quality services to visiting delegates and guests in collaboration with the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority. The Authority has pushing to constantly upgrade and boost the services provided to exhibition guests in particular through a number of meetings. Services offered to exhibition delegates include private insurance, help with registration procedures and all other requirements at the Fair, free shuttle buses to and from Expo Centre Sharjah and cars for VIPs. The largest of its kind in the Middle East, the Sharjah International Book Fair is a registered member of a number of international organisations such as the Afro-Asian Publishers’ Association, the GCC Book Committee and has also been recognised by the International Publishers Association. The SIBC is a great annual platform and opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences between the publishers and distributors, authors and writers and leading organisers of international exhibitions.
