Drive to Mleiha Archaeological Centre, located around 65km southeast of Sharjah city in the Central Region. For those without a vehicle or hire car, the centre offers return transfers from Sharjah city or Dubai.
Mhelia’s desert landscape is made for fun and the archaeological centre offers a wide range of activities. Enjoy the sandy spectacle during a guided trek, spotting flora and fauna that has thrived in the harsh environment for millennia. Then take a seat inside one of the dune buggies for an adrenaline-pumping ride through the desert.
Arrive at the Mleiha campsite and enjoy an Arabic feast under the stars in a traditional Bedouin-style majlis. After dinner, indulge in some serious stargazing under clear dark skies, before retiring to your tent to relish the stillness of the desert.
Rise and shine! You will soon discover the desert dunes look completely different in the morning light, tempting photography enthusiasts out of their tents. Fuel up for the day ahead with an alfresco breakfast in the sunshine, before bidding farewell to your desert camp.
Get set to explore on two wheels. Venture out with your guide on a specially designed bike with extra-wide tyres that makes cycling through sand a breeze. Visit Fossil Rock and other archaeological and historical sites, climb soft dunes for the perfect viewpoint and spot birds, reptiles and camels.
Back at Mleiha Archaeological Centre, grab a table by the window at Bystro Café and enjoy a hearty lunch. Choose from sandwiches, burgers, salads and café favourites such as fish and chips – just be sure to leave room for a gooey chocolate brownie.
After lunch, leave the desert behind and set off for the easy drive back to the city.
