SCTDA aims to increase vital contribution to the economy, society, culture and environment through commerce and tourism in Sharjah. The emirate has a lot to offer with diverse landscapes, thriving wildlife, cultural landmarks and historical sites. SCTDA was founded to feature this unique blend of culture, nature, art and tradition for a greater local and national economy. By collaborating with other government departments, Sharjah is now one of the most distinguished tourist places in the world, with titles like “Cultural Capital of the Arab World (1998)” and "World Book Capital 2019" from UNESCO among others.

SCTDA contributes to commercial growth by developing attractions for Sharjah tourism, including Al Majaz Waterfont and the yearly Sharjah Lights Festival. To capitalise on pleasant Sharjah weather in the evenings, SCTDA also oversaw multiple developments to create more places to visit in Sharjah at night. The ultimate aim of the organisation is to continuously attract foreign investment through commerce and tourism for a thriving economy. To do this, SCTDA develops policy for local, regional and international exhibitions and events like the Sharjah International Book Fair and Sharjah World Championship Week. These initiatives have generated greater investor interest and footfall to the many places to visit in Sharjah.

SCTDA continues to facilitate greater connectivity between the world, Sharjah and other emirates. With the growing Sharjah Airport and services like the Dubai to Sharjah bus and ferry, locals and tourists can easily find tickets to Sharjah, wherever they may be.
