This restored fort is built on the foundations of a 17th-century Portuguese fort that gave the town its name

Small but perfectly formed, Dibba Al Hisn Fort has a crenellated watchtower overlooking the Gulf of Oman. The town itself is famous as the site of one of the great battles of the Ridda Wars, also known as the Wars of Apostasy, in 632 AD.

After looking around the fort, take a leisurely amble up to the marina. This picturesque spot is best visited in the afternoon, when the local fishermen bring their daily catch into the Fish Souk.

How to get there

The fort is located one block in from the Corniche in the town of Dibba Al Hisn on Sharjah’s east coast. It is an easy 90-minute drive from Sharjah city.
