The Mleiha Archaeological Centre located in the Central Region of the emirate, is home to many of the adventure sites and historical places to visit in Sharjah. The centre offers also offers guided tours of important archaeological sites.

Start with a guided tour of the Umm an-Nar tomb, a circular Bronze Era grave, where you can delve into the history of ancient Bedouin civilisation much before modern Emirati culture. Then move onto Fossil Rock, a huge rock formation filled with marine fossils.

There are also several opportunities for adventure in the area with trekking, hiking, dune bashing, quad bike riding or even paragliding from the highest peaks in Mleiha. Go on a desert safari and ask about the best spots to set up a desert camp. The centre can offer advice, especially if you’re looking for a “glamping” experience. Visitors love to spend a night under the stars in Mleiha surrounded by picturesque sand dune formations.

Before you leave, don’t forget to stop by the centre for the exhibits of ancient artifacts, explore the interactive displays and end with a delicious meal at the cafe.

How to get there

The Mleiha Archaeological Centre is located at Mleiha near Jebel Fayah, 65km southeast of Sharjah city. If you don’t have your own car, return transfers from Sharjah are available.
