A guardian of Al Dhaid Oasis through time

Located at the north-eastern entrance of Al Dhaid Oasis, Al Mudharsa Tower stands as a historic landmark that once formed part of the traditional defence system protecting the oasis and its agricultural lands.

Carefully restored using traditional materials and architectural techniques, the tower reflects the local building traditions of the region. Constructed from clay with thick cylindrical walls supported by a stone foundation, the tower was designed to provide both protection and clear visibility across the surrounding farmland.

Visitors can observe the tower’s defensive features, including its elevated entrance, narrow internal staircase, and small observation openings used for monitoring the oasis and safeguarding water sources and crops. These elements illustrate how communities historically protected their settlements and resources.

Surrounded by landscaped green spaces and illuminated pathways, the tower now offers a welcoming cultural stop for visitors exploring Al Dhaid City and the Central Region of Sharjah.

In December 2023, Al Dhaid Fort and Falaj Al Dhaid, including Al Mudharsa Tower, were inscribed on the ICESCO World Heritage List, recognising the site’s cultural and historical significance as an example of defensive architecture connected to oasis agriculture.
