Get enchanted by natural views in the ‘sweet valley’.

Blessed with abundant underground water, Wadi al Helo - or “sweet valley” in English - is home to an important archaeological site and a restored Islamic watchtower. Nestled between the Hajar mountains, the wadi is a protected area for endangered birds, reptiles, rodents and freshwater fish.

The natural landscape here provides a number of options for scenic hiking trails in the UAE. The most popular trail is an easy walk to the top of a hill, where an old fort offers a breathtaking 360-degree view of the UAE mountain range. If you’re up for more trekking, follow the well-worn animal tracks deeper into the wadi. You are very likely to encounter wildlife like the Arabian Oryx, the UAE’s national animal, and find desert flowers blooming along the way.

If you’re going with family, consider one of the guided hiking tours. Children will specially enjoy exploring the wadi. Wadi Al Helo is a destination off the beaten path, so guides can give your family undivided attention, making it one of the most adventurous things to do with kids.
